Program Overview:

YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS TRAINING PROGRAM

The goal of the Young Entrepreneurial Training Program is to teach financial literacy and business skills through the filter of entrepreneurism. Youth learn the principals of money and capitalism from professionals in the field and participate in a mock business start-up that culminates with them preparing a product review, marketing campaign, and the opportunity to sell their product/services to the community at a local annual festival. The end of the three-week summers session culminates with a “shark Tank” presentation and then awards are presented. The winter Session are intense business plan workshops and includes entering business plan competitions.

Operating year-round, the program focuses on financial literacy, interpersonal relationships, competition, risk management and strategic planning through the entrepreneurial experience. Participants are divided into five partnerships and are required to create their own company (product or service). This is inclusive of a budget, calculating the bottom line, brand identity, marketing, public relations and communications, as well as, professional dress and presentation. The creation of partnerships enabled the participants to learn the importance of teamwork, brainstorming, interpersonal skills, as well as the art of debate and negotiation.
