About the Program Director

James O.  Aydelott

“nicknamed Jamie”

Jamie Aydelott  is a young man, passionate about mentoring young people.

His journey of fulfilling this quest began with his volunteering in Roosevelt P.A.L .as a Coach for Basketball and Football in August 1988.  Later that year he was voted Vice President of Roosevelt P.A.L ., a position which he held until 1994.

In 1997, Jamie exercised his entrepreneurial spirit by opening Blenz Barbershop in Freeport.  He used this enterprise to continue to serve the community.  Through the Barbershop he held Christmas Toy Drives gave out Halloween candy, distributed back to school supplies to his young patrons and kids in the neighborhood, chew and chat with gang members, and helped the homeless.

In the summer of 1997, Jamie partnered with Bishop Frank O. White to start the Big Brothers Association and established the “Unity in the Community Basketball Tournament” as a platform to mentor community youth.  Jamie organized a group of males whose initial task was to renovate and clean up the Martin Luther King Jr. Park(Steven Street Park) in Freeport which was plagued with drugs, gangs,  litter, and not being used.  Due to their passionate community outreach, the tournament grew to over 300 kids with approximately 70 volunteers and was later relocated to Northeast Park in Freeport.

In recognition of his commitment to community service, Jamie has received rewards and honors from numerous civic and political organizations.

He is also the President and Founder of B.A.L.M.(Brothers Affiliated Lifting Manhood), an organization who’s purpose is to network with men whose goals are to enhance the community and empower youth.

Jamie is married to his high school sweetheart, Theresa. They have two children, Khatia and Jahme’
